Meet Farmland Sower: Anifat Ibrahim

Few Nigerian youths aspire to be agricultural professionals but what could be more rewarding than being an authority on an field that holds the key to Nigeria’s economic revival, a sector of the economy that many Nigerian depend on for their daily upkeep? Professionals can teach, share best practices, be involved in policy making and advocacy, work with other professionals in other sectors to bring about holistic development and play many other important roles in local and international development circles.

Today, we present to you an ambitious young woman who hopes to carve a niche in the agricultural professional world. Anifat Ibrahim is a HISARD fellow and the leader for Team B. She will be working with two of her peers to design and execute a business plan in the Erefe community of Osun state. This plan will seek to improve the farming practices and livelihoods of farmers in this community. As theplan materializes, Anifat will be shedding more light on this initiative. For now, here’s what Anifat has to say about herself:

My name is Anifat Oluwatoyin Ibrahim. I am a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Osun State, Nigeria and I’m currently enrolled under the department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development. My particular fields of interest are poultry, agroforestry, apiary and soil fertility (organic manure). Within the HISARD program, I hope to acquire skills and knowledge necessary to establish me as an agricultural entrepreneur in the nearest future and to contribute my quota to the development of agriculture in the HISARD project community. Upon my completion of the HISARD fellowship, I hope to acquire more knowledge in the field of agriculture through graduate training in a well-established agricultural farm and post-graduate programs in the university. The aim is to be a trusted authority on all things agriculture and to use my knowledge for the utmost benefit of the Nigerian agricultural sector including academia.
